Pas De Deux
A new book is published to celebrate the first anniversary of Newbiggin's most famous landmark
A new chapter has been written in the lives of Newbiggin’s most celebrated couple. It’s coming up to the first anniversary of when Couple by artist Sean Henry was installed in Newbiggin Bay as part of the Beach recharge programme. To celebrate the milestone birthday, Inspire Northumberland has published a stunning new book documenting the artwork’s journey from creation through to the present day.
The full colour book shows an amazing visual record of how Couple has spent the past twelve-months, from basking in the summer sunshine to experiencing the brisk winter storms.
The publication will be launched during a special free anniversary event, taking place in Newbiggin on Sunday 17 August from 12noon to 3pm. The occasion will include a book signing by artist Sean Henry (12noon - 2pm at Newbiggin Sailing Club) and this will be followed by a fabulous display of performance dance entitled Pas de Deux (meaning dance for two). The new commission has seen the Northumberland Strategic Arts Forum bring together five creative couples whose task it was to devise pieces of dance inspired by the Couple artwork (2pm – 3pm at various locations including the beach, bandstand, the smaller land Couple sculpture and on the promenade).
Before the dance event there will also be a special birthday message given by Reverend Judith Grieve of St Bartholomew’s Church.
